Nairobi, Kenya, Apr 6 -The Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has expressed the government’s commitment to modernize and reform the security sector of the country through training, capacity building, and technology to tackle modern-day security challenges.
Kindiki made the statement during a meeting with the United States Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, where he listed counter-terrorism, organized crime, trafficking in narcotics, human trafficking, and cyber-crime as Kenya’s security priority areas.
“CS Kindiki and Ambassador Whitman lauded the long-standing cooperation between Kenya and USA, that has yielded results in counter terrorism efforts, tackling organized crime, enhancing border control and support for the for the Kenya Coast Guard Service,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The interior CS outlined the government’s commitment to modernize police equipment under the security equipment modernization programme and to build officers’ leadership capacity and reform the organizational culture of the security agencies.
Ambassador Whitman reiterated that the Joe Biden administration would continue to partner with Kenya in the use of technology to combat various emerging crimes and to enhance service delivery.
She also pledged to step up US support for Kenya to enhance food security and mitigate drought.
