NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14 – Identy.io has announced plans to expand into Africa, naming Kenya and Nigeria as its initial entry markets amid rising demand for digital identity infrastructure.

The biometric authentication firm said it will establish a regional leadership team to drive engagements with governments, financial institutions and telecommunications companies.

It has also appointed Matus Kapusta as Product Director for its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) portfolio.

The expansion comes as African governments accelerate digital ID rollouts to enhance service delivery and financial inclusion.

According to World Bank ID4D data, about 80 percent of adults in Sub-Saharan Africa have some form of basic identification, although coverage in several countries remains below 70 percent, limiting access to essential services.

“Identy.io is committed to being the leading long-term partner in digital public and private infrastructure for our African clients,” said Antony Vendhan, Co-founder of Identy.io.

He noted that the company’s software-first approach reduces reliance on specialized biometric hardware and supports smartphone-based biometric capture.

The firm’s ABIS system is compliant with MOSIP standards and is listed on the MOSIP Marketplace, as it pursues phased expansion across the continent.
