Afrigas marks 70 years of safety, growth at LPG conference

NAIVASHA, Kenya, Feb 27 – Afrigas reaffirmed its commitment to safety, innovation, and business growth at the 8th Annual Afrigas Distributors Conference, held at **Enashipai Resort under the theme “Bigger, Bolder, Better Together.”

The conference brought together hundreds of Afrigas distributors to celebrate the company’s 70-year legacy and discuss strategies to expand clean cooking solutions across Kenya while tackling illegal refilling practices that threaten the LPG sector.

Unwavering commitment to safety

Vivo Energy Kenya Managing Director Peter Murungi emphasized Afrigas’ leadership in LPG safety standards, highlighting the company’s rigorous approach to ensuring every cylinder meets the highest safety requirements.

“Afrigas has built a reputation for unrivaled safety in the LPG sector. We ensure every cylinder is sourced from genuine distributors, verified by weight, and accompanied by valid receipts,” Murungi said.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting distributors with the tools they need to scale their businesses and bring safe, reliable LPG to more Kenyan households.

Driving innovation with Supa Jiko

Afrigas continues to prioritize customer-focused innovations, including the Supa Jiko, a cost-effective cooking solution designed for seamless integration with cooking jikos.

“We are proud to be the only oil marketing company (OMC) offering the Afrigas 6kg ‘Supa Jiko’ cylinder, which connects to a tabletop burner or cooker using a regulator and hose pipe,” said Stephen Gikonyo, Head of LPG & Lubes Sales and Marketing.

The Supa Jiko offers the convenience of a 13kg cylinder at the cost of a 6kg one, making LPG more affordable and accessible while ensuring safe and efficient cooking.

Expanding market leadership

Afrigas has doubled the number of cylinders in circulation, achieving double-digit growth and expanding its presence in the **informal sector.

Key distribution areas include Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, the eastern region, and Mount Kenya, with data-driven strategies shaping expansion efforts.

“Customers remain at the heart of everything we do. Our supply chain is built for efficiency, affordability, and top-tier service delivery,” Gikonyo added.

Afrigas also prioritizes consumer education, ensuring each cylinder comes with clear usage instructions, safety messaging, and a rigorous verification system to protect customers from counterfeit products.

Recognizing excellence

The conference concluded with a Gala Awards Ceremony, recognizing top-performing distributors for their commitment to safety, growth, and customer satisfaction.

With previous editions held in Eldoret, Kisumu, Nairobi, and Kisii, the Afrigas conference series underscores the company’s nationwide focus and deep-rooted partnerships across Kenya.
