The nominees list includes Sippy Chadha , Art Siteiya Warui , Jenniffer Gatero, Catherine Kamau , Sarah Hassan , Emma Nzioka, Voline Ogutu, Wambui Gathee, Shirleen Wangari, Denise Kibisu, Josephine Obudo. Nominated actresses were shortlisted after the public offered up names over 17 categories since December 2020. This year features 3 more categories as compared to last year which only had 14.
Part of the jury this year includes Rachael Mwara Kungu , Rachael is the CEO of Mundu Mwara Studios, currently producing the Almasi Project, a Kenyan 2D animated series for children’s television. Dr Everlyne Hongo an accomplished educationist, Wangechi Murage a Broadcast Media Executive, film maker Krysteen Savane and Gathoni Kungu as well as the prolific actress Suki.

Women in Film Awards was inaugurated last year in 2020 at the Kenya National Theater and was an event that saw very many women filmmakers recognized for their work in the film industry, some of them who won in the last year’s event included Wambui Thimba as best Costume Designer, Brenda Wairimu in the Best Actress category, Mercy Adundo as best Sound Designer, Appie Matere as best producer.
The awards aim to empower women in Kenya to embrace filmmaking, as well as create a market linkage for them to the larger market for film and generally to encourage women filmmakers in Kenya to present the world as they experience it through filming the world.
