Woman charged over alleged Sh2.1mn theft

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 28 – A company director has been charged for allegedly stealing Sh2.1 million belonging to a company in a case before a Makadara court.

Christine Njeri Wanjiru appeared before trial Magistrate Juliana Ndengeri on Friday where she was charged with stealing by director contrary to Section 282 of the Penal Code.

The charge sheet states that Wanjiru committed the offence on diverse dates between June 15 and August 11, 2026, at an unknown location within Kenya.

The prosecution alleges that Wanjiru, being a director of company, stole Sh2.1 million, being the property of the company.

She was arrested on August 27, 2026, and was presented before court a day later.

During the bail proceedings, the prosecution urged the court to take into consideration the amount of money allegedly stolen when determining the terms to grant the accused.

The State argued that the alleged amount was significant and asked the court to consider the circumstances of the case before releasing Wanjiru on bail.

The accused denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh1million or pay a cash bail of Sh1million.The case will be mentioned on December 2.
