Beyoncé just pulled off the ultimate Fourth of July weekend surprise by dropping a brand-new single titled “MORNING DEW (DONK).
It’s a massive moment for the BeyHive, especially since it marks her first fresh music release since Cowboy Carter dropped back in early 2024.
The track is a sultry, 90s-coded R&B number that fans might actually find a bit familiar. The song was originally recorded during her 2013 self-titled album era, and an unreleased version known simply as “Donk” previously leaked and went viral on TikTok.
Now officially polished and released via Parkwood/Columbia, it features heavy-hitter credits: it was co-written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and DIXSON, with production handled by Queen Bey and Pharrell.
This isn’t just a random standalone single. The release officially kicks off a 60-day countdown to the 20th Anniversary reissue of her iconic sophomore album, B’Day (which originally dropped on her birthday, September 4, 2006). “MORNING DEW (DONK)” will serve as a premier track on this upcoming reissue.
True to form, she paired the release with a lyric video directed by Cliff Watts. The video cleverly repurposes two-decade-old, unreleased footage shot by Watts around the time of the original B’Day era—giving the whole drop an incredibly authentic, nostalgic visual archive feel.
