NAIROBI, Kenya, June 10 – Sidian Bank has committed Sh1.5 million towards improving pediatric healthcare services in Kenya’s South Rift region through sponsorship of the AGC Tenwek Hospital Charity Golf Tournament.
The funding will support the hospital’s “Hearts in Motion 2026” initiative, which seeks to establish a dedicated pediatric unit at AGC Tenwek Hospital in Bomet County.
The planned facility will include a Malnutrition and Child Development Clinic and a Compassionate Paediatric Fund aimed at supporting children suffering from severe malnutrition and complex medical conditions.
Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said the lender joined the initiative as part of its efforts to support community welfare and healthcare access.
“We have partnered with Tenwek and other corporates on this worthy cause. The region experiences many cases of malnutrition and children often require nutritional support before treatment. As a bank, it is important to contribute to society through such initiatives,” he said.
According to AGC Tenwek Hospital, pediatric malnutrition remains a major challenge in the region, with at least 20 children admitted every month with severe malnutrition, increasing treatment risks and recovery periods.
The hospital says the new unit will help strengthen early nutrition screening, therapeutic feeding programs, and emergency medical interventions for vulnerable children.
AGC Tenwek Hospital Director of Fundraising and Development Judith Malel noted that the facility absorbs about Sh4 million every month in uncompensated care to support vulnerable patients.
The hospital serves patients from Bomet, Kericho, Narok, and Kisii counties, as well as referrals from across East Africa.
As the only Level 6-functioning referral hospital in the South Rift, Tenwek is also home to one of the region’s leading cardiothoracic centers, performing a significant share of Kenya’s open-heart surgeries.
The charity golf tournament forms part of the hospital’s broader 2026 fundraising campaign, which includes medical outreach programs, an executive dinner, and a charity run aimed at raising resources for healthcare services.
