Sahihi/Bingwa Green Run returns for 9th edition in Kiambu

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 21 – The ninth edition of the Sahihi/Bingwa Green Run & Walk is set to take place on May 23, 2026, in Gatatha/Cianda, Kiambu County, bringing together communities, corporates, schools, and athletes to support education and environmental conservation initiatives.

Organised by Sahihi Interior Builders in partnership with Bingwa Handyman Services and Sahihi Buildings Maintenance, this year’s event is themed “Bingwa – Flourishing Humanity.”

The initiative focuses on supporting bright but needy students from tea and coffee plantation communities through education sponsorship, mentorship, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment programmes.

According to the organisers, the Green Run has grown into a grassroots social impact movement over the past nine years, attracting participation from corporates, schools, professionals, cyclists, athletes, and local residents.

The programme has already supported students who have gone on to join and graduate from institutions including Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Technical University of Mombasa, and the Kenya School of Interior Design.

“The Green Run is more than a sporting event. It is a platform for restoring dignity, creating hope, and building a future for communities that are often overlooked,” said Njihia Njoroge.

The event will feature 21-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre run and walk categories, alongside cycling routes covering 25 kilometres, 50 kilometres, and 100 kilometres.

Participants will begin the race at Gatatha Farmers CofTea Factory before concluding at All Saints High School Cianda. Organisers said the route has been redesigned to reduce tarmac exposure and improve participant experience.

Schools expected to participate include Cianda Primary School, Cianda High School, Gatatha Primary School, Githiga High School, Ndumberi Secondary School, Ting’anga High School, and Kibubuti Primary School.

Starehe Boys’ Centre and Starehe Girls’ Centre will also take part through mentorship and student engagement activities.

The event will additionally feature mentorship sessions, sponsorship drives, awards ceremonies, wellness campaigns, and environmental awareness activities.

Organisers are appealing to corporates, development partners, and well-wishers to support the initiative through sponsorships, donations, and team participation.

Supporters and partners already engaged with the initiative include Cianda Estate, Sasini, Norbrook, Kibubuti Flowers, Eden Tea, Karia Roses, and Ngorongo Tea Factory.
