NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 31 – Police have discovered 26 bags of bhang valued at Sh6 million hidden in a church in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado.
The unexpected raid also led to the recovery of suspected stolen electronics and the discovery of a slaughtered goat.
James Taari, the Deputy County Commissioner in Kajiado North, expressed his astonishment at the situation. He mentioned that the main suspect had managed to escape but emphasized the seriousness of the discovery. The church in question, known as African B Church, was involved in illegal activities that had gone unnoticed.
“This is a major breakthrough. This is not a church but a den of criminals,” Taari stated. He further added that the church’s management is now considered persons of interest as there are suspicions of their involvement in selling bhang to youths in the area.
Taari also urged citizens to be vigilant and report any illicit activities they observe in the region. He acknowledged that residents sometimes fear reporting such activities due to potential reprisals from criminals and encouraged them not to be intimidated.
The suspects have been apprehended and are currently being held at the Ongata Rongai police station, awaiting formal charges. The investigation into this unexpected discovery is ongoing.
