Next generation condoms will feel more like skin than latex

A team of researchers from the University of Wollongong (UOW) has received Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funding to help develop a Next Generation Condom that significantly preserves or enhances pleasure, in order to improve uptake and regular use.

According to researchers, the new condom will be invisible, and feel and act more like human skin.

In order to replace latex, researchers are turning to hydrogels, which are made of water and held together by polymers – molecular chains. Since hydrogels consist mainly of water, the condom will be self-lubricating and will feel soft.

Researchers hope the new condom will change the views of condom use and popularize it, preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancy whilst enhancing pleasure.
