NAIROBI, Kenya, December 6 – The men’s national netball team collected bronze at the ongoing Africa Netball Cup when they beat hosts Botswana 46-27 in a thrilling encounter at the University of Botswana Indoor Facility in Gaborone.
The Netkings were among four teams that have been competing at the week-long continental championships, the others including South Africa and Zimbabwe.
They began their campaign with a 37-29 to Zims before going down 42-30 to the South Africans.
However, they recovered to beat Botswana 42-36 in their round-robin tournament, which took them to third ahead of their winless hosts.
On the other hand, their female compatriots, La Divas, finished fifth after dispatching of Eswatini 46-27 in the fifth-place playoff at the same venue.
The Kenyans had finished fifth in their pool, which included Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Eswatini.
Their sole win in the group came against Eswatini who they narrowly defeated 44-43.
The competition, originally slated for Uganda, was marred by the withdrawal of the continent’s top seeds in the women’s game, including Uganda, Malawi and South Africa.
The finals will be staged later on Wednesday with Zambia and Namibia facing off in the women’s division whereas Zimbabwe and South Africa lock horns in the men’s game.
