NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 16 – The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that all procurement of goods, works, and services in the 2025/26 financial year will be exclusively handled through the government’s electronic procurement system (e-GP).
The state agency, mandated to manage, develop, rehabilitate, and maintain national roads, said the move is in line with efforts to enhance transparency and efficiency in public procurement.
“All interested suppliers, contractors, consultants, and service providers are required to register on the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System,” KeNHA said in a notice.
“Bidders are advised to frequently check the platform to keep up with procurement opportunities as they arise.”
Among the key projects set to feature on the platform is the construction of the Uplands–Githunguri–Ruiru (B116) road, which has been listed as a priority tender in the coming cycle.
The highways authority emphasized that registration through the government procurement portal will be a prerequisite for participation, with physical submissions no longer accepted.
President William Ruto had in November last year directed that the e-GP system must be fully rolled out by the first quarter of 2025 as part of his administration’s attempt to reduce fraud, including ghost firms and inflated bids, and improve transparency.
The e-GP system is Kenya’s online platform for all procurement of public goods, works, and services. It’s meant to automate the procurement cycle from planning, advertising, bidding, evaluation, and award through to contract management and payment.
It is intended to standardize procurement across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as county governments, reducing manual, paper-based processes.
Key features include mandatory supplier registration, online submission of bids, visibility of procurement opportunities, and integration with other government systems such as the Kenya Revenue Authority’s iTax, the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) and the Business Registration Service.
