NAIROBI, Kenya, July 9 – KCB Bank has expanded its Islamic banking offering with the launch of new Shariah-compliant payment, savings and agency banking solutions aimed at growing its presence among Muslim customers.
The lender has partnered with Mastercard to roll out the Sahl Card, an Islamic finance payment solution that enables customers to make everyday purchases while adhering to Shariah principles.
KCB has also unveiled the Sahl Agency Banking network, allowing customers to deposit and withdraw cash, make payments and access other banking services through authorised agents.
The bank said the new products are designed to improve access to Islamic banking while offering customers greater convenience in managing their finances.
KCB Group Director for Strategy and Innovation Mark Mwongela said the lender is responding to growing demand for financial products that align with customers’ religious beliefs and lifestyle preferences.
“We remain committed to developing financial solutions that reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our customers. The Sahl Card represents an important step in expanding access to Shariah-compliant banking solutions by providing customers with a secure, convenient, and values-driven payment option that supports their everyday financial and lifestyle needs,” he said.
The Sahl Card comes with lifestyle and travel benefits, including discounts on accommodation, dining, shopping and leisure experiences through Mastercard’s global network.
Eligible Mastercard World Elite and Gold cardholders will also have access to The Mastercard Collection, a premium package offering curated dining, travel and lifestyle experiences in participating markets.
Mastercard Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, Shehryar Ali, said the partnership is intended to promote greater financial inclusion by providing payment solutions tailored to Muslim consumers.
“We are actively powering an inclusive digital economy where every individual and community can pay with confidence. Our collaboration with KCB gives consumers a payment solution built around their values and lifestyle. By combining our global network with KCB’s deep local expertise, we are connecting the Islamic banking community to the experiences and passions that matter most to them.”
Additional features of the card include spending controls, transaction alerts, concierge services and an Islamic-themed design that reflects the preferences of its target market.
The launch comes as Kenyan banks continue to expand Shariah-compliant financial products to tap growing demand for Islamic banking services, particularly among Muslim communities seeking alternatives that comply with Islamic finance principles.
