NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 – The government will encourage police officers to solemnize their marriages through mass weddings.
Under the Office of the Spouse of the Deputy President (OSDP), the agenda of family values and chaplaincy will champion these weddings.
Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, during the commissioning of 11 police officers to be bishop, evangelists, and pastors at the Nyeri Administration Police Line, said she would “personally attend the annual mass weddings” in support of strong families for the police.
“Together with the National Police Service, we shall sponsor uniformed mass weddings every year as a way of establishing police families. This is part of the Kenya Kwanza Government’s agenda, and promise to upgrade police welfare,” said Pastor Dorcas.
She added that she was 35 years married to His Excellency, the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and believed in strong families as the basic unit of society.
“There is a transformation happening in this country, even as we witness today’s occasion of our security officers being commissioned to the priesthood. I urge all officers to always stand by the truth, and they will succeed,” said Pastor Dorcas.
She said the OSDP would collaborate with the police chaplaincy, led by Chief Chaplain of the APs Bishop Dr. Kipkoech Kibet, in advocating for strong family values across the security service.
Pastor Dorcas witnessed the commissioning and ordination of the 11 police officers: Eunice Mwangi (Nyeri), Isaac Ondenyo (Muranga), Boniface Nyaga (Nyeri), Peter Muiruri (Nyeri), Miriam Wanjiru (Limuru), Joseph Wanyugi (Kiambu), Daniel Loisa (Kiambaa), Fredrick Kariuki (Ruiru), David Muthuri (Muranga), Timanoi Kaposhi (Juja), and Rev. David Mwangi who was ordained the fourth Bishop under the Administration Police.
Pastor Dorcas also officially opened the Nyeri AP Line Chapel in the town during the service led by Chief AP Chaplain Bishop Kibet.
The new Bishop would serve as “Bishop Overseer of the Central Region.”
Nyeri County Commander Martin Kinyua appreciated the collaboration of the Presidency and police in ensuring the security service has strong families that are spiritually nourished.
“It is a great honour to have one of us ordained as a Bishop, and to see the growth in the number of police serving our APs spiritually, giving them guidance and counseling,” said Commander Kinyua.
Some of the Protestant Community Churches (PCC) under the Administration Police are located in Nyeri, Kenol, Ruiru, Muranga, and chapels at the Kiambu Prison, Kapenguria, and Limuru, among others.
Bishop Kibet asked Kenyans to pray for the nation and police officers.
“We have police officers serving as chaplains, faithfully, and this is a great blessing,” said Bishop Kibet.
