KIRINYAGA, Kenya, Oct 4 – Gichugu Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Kirinyaga County is set to benefit from the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, with the construction of 580 housing units within the institution scheduled to begin soon.

The college, located less than a kilometer from Mount Kenya Forest, has for years relied on private hostel owners to accommodate its students.

Gichugu TVC Principal Mr. Kimemia welcomed the project, saying it will ease the accommodation burden and boost student enrollment.

“The affordable housing project will provide 580 beds, meaning our students will have a safe place to live and study. This will solve many challenges that have affected access to education for our learners,” he said, thanking the government and local community for their support.

He noted that the college’s location had made access to decent housing difficult, with most students depending on small rental units built by locals.

Area MP Githinji Gichimu said he will continue to lobby for additional infrastructure at the institution, including a school bus to facilitate academic trips and sporting activities.
