NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – Former Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa has officially defected from Ford Kenya and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), fueling speculation about his bid to become the party’s Secretary General, a position currently held by Hassan Omar.
Wamalwa, who previously served as Ford Kenya’s Secretary General, cited political alignment and strategic opportunities as key reasons for the switch.
His move is seen as part of UDA’s continued effort to strengthen its political machinery ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political analysts say Wamalwa’s entry into UDA could reshape internal dynamics within the party, especially as leadership positions like the Secretary General role are pivotal in coordinating party nominations and campaigns.
“Joining UDA is a strategic step forward. I believe I can contribute to the party’s growth while serving the interests of Kenyans effectively,” Wamalwa said.
The former MP’s defection comes at a time when UDA is actively consolidating support from seasoned politicians ahead of the next election cycle, positioning the party as a dominant force in the country’s political landscape.
Hassan Omar, the current UDA Secretary General, has yet to comment on Wamalwa’s intentions.
