NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – The European Union, in collaboration with NGOs including Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES-Kenya), Civil Society Urban Development Platform (CSUDP), and Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), has launched the ‘Strengthening Civil Society Engagement for a Just and Sustainable Urbanization (SCEJU) project’ in Kenya.
The initiative aims to enhance climate resilience and biodiversity in urban informal settlements in Kisumu, Nakuru, and Makueni counties, focusing on empowering youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
Bastian Schulz, FES-Kenya Country Representative, highlighted the project’s focus on water and waste management, stating that it will help vulnerable urban communities address sustainability challenges.
CSUDP CEO George Wasonga emphasized the role of youth as drivers of change in service delivery within informal settlements.
The launch event seeks to connect stakeholders, enhance project visibility, and promote sustainable urban policies for a resilient future in Kenya’s urban areas.
