NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 18 – Thousands of motorists using Waiyaki Way are set to face traffic disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a three-month partial closure of a key section of the busy road in Nairobi.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, KeNHA said the Nakuru-bound carriageway between Karuna Close and the Westlands Roundabout will be partially closed from June 25, 2026, to September 25, 2026.
The closure will pave the way for the extension of an existing pedestrian footbridge near Dunhill Towers and the construction of a new footbridge linking Fogo Gaucho and QuickMart Westlands.
According to KeNHA, the temporary traffic disruption is necessary to facilitate critical infrastructure works aimed at improving pedestrian safety along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road from Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” the notice stated.
The authority said the works will involve extending the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and constructing the proposed Fogo Gaucho–QuickMart Westlands Footbridge.
The partial closure is expected to affect traffic flow along Waiyaki Way, particularly during peak hours when thousands of commuters use the route daily.
Motorists heading towards Westlands, Kangemi, Uthiru and Nakuru have been advised to anticipate delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
KeNHA urged road users to remain vigilant while approaching the affected section.
“Motorists are advised to approach the affected section with caution, observe and comply with all temporary traffic signs and traffic control measures, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority said.
KeNHA has assured the public that traffic management measures will be put in place throughout the construction period to minimize disruptions.
