NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 16 – Voters in Kiagu and Mahoo wards in Meru and Taita Taveta counties headed to polls on Thursday to elect their representatives in a contest largely pitting Jubilee Party against United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In Kiagu, Jubilee’s Samson Magambo is facing off with UDA’s Simon Kiambi and Patrick Kathurima of Chama cha Uzalendo.

Other contenders in the by-election include Milton Mwenda of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party.

About 6,000 registered voters were expected to cast their ballots across 13 polling stations in Taita Taveta’s Mahoo ward.

ODM backed out of the race in support of Jubilee’s candidate Fundi Banton who also enjoys the backing of Governor Granton Samboja

Meanwhile, UDA’s Daniel Kimuyu enjoys the support of former Governor John Mruttu who is keen to reclaim the seat in 2022.

The two seats fell vacant following the death of the MCAs Eunice Karegi (Kiagu) and Ronald Sagurani (Mahoo).
