KISUMU, Kenya, Jan 17 – Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron is appealing to the National Treasury to expedite the release of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) as high number of learners are yet to report to school due to lack of fees.
Oron says what has already been released to cater for bursary is a drop in the ocean.
“We have only received Sh. 30 million, just like any other constituency but this is not enough to cope with the magnitude of students we have,” he said.
He says for the allocation of bursary for his constituency, he is entitled to over Sh. 64 million and wondered why the rest of the money has been held back.
The MP says it is difficult to distribute what he has at hand owing to the high number of needy parents who are stuck with their children as schools reopen for 2024 lessons.
Speaking in his constituency on Wednesday when he oversaw the process of bursary forms distribution, Oron says as elected leaders they will not tire in demanding for the full release of the funds.
He says the government should listen to the cries of its people and respond appropriately.
Oron says Kenyans are undergoing a very hard economic time now coupled with sending children to school.
“This is the best time that the government should stand with its people, it is a very hard time for everyone and Kenyans need support,” he said.
He told parliamentarians not to lower the gun and push the treasury to act as fast as possible.
Oron announced that in his constituency bursary is sponsoring over 9,000 students in high school and a further 60 students to benefit from full scholarship.
