COLOMBO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) — Sri Lanka’s main international airport, Bandaranaike International Airport, has earned 26 billion rupees (about 80 million U.S. dollars) in profits so far in 2023, state media reported on Friday quoting Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, Nimal Siripala de Silva.
The minister said that in 2022, the Bandaranaike International Airport made a loss of 4 billion rupees (about 12.3 million dollars).
He said the government has taken steps to improve facilities in the airport, including the installation of modern communications equipment and radar.
Sri Lanka is expected to attract 5 million tourists by 2030, and enhancing capacity of the Bandaranaike International Airport is key to facilitating tourism growth, government officials have said.
