NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 – The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has warned private security firms operating in institutions of higher learning without identifiable badges of heavy penalties if found guilty.
While individuals without the Guard Force Numbers (GFN) will be liable to imprisonment, corporations will be fined Sh2 million.
PSRA Director General (DG) Fazul Mahamed said that it is mandatory for all in-house security officers, contracted private security officers, and all other officials offering security services at universities and colleges, among others, to visibly wear the GFN bearing their names and license numbers while on duty.
“The Guard Force Number is not just a badge it is the Government seal of approval. Wear it like a badge of honor,” Mahamed said during his speech at the Kenya School of Government.
He further stated that anyone who engages the services of unlicensed private security officers will also be liable for the fine.
The above-mentioned officers are also required to undergo rigorous security vetting, training, and licensing by the authority, Mahamed added.
“You are hereby required to within 1 Month undergo training in security matters in an institution accredited by the Authority as a prerequisite requirement for registration and licensing in accordance with section 23 (2) (d) of the Act,” Mahamed noted.
The above measure is part of PSRA’s security reform agenda to address existing security gaps as well as emerging ones within universities and institutions of higher learning.
