NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 6 – President William Ruto has stepped up efforts to ensure that his administration goes paperless in the delivery of services to Kenyans.
President Ruto revealed on Friday that during his cabinet meetings going forward, business will be transacted digitally.
“We are going to run our cabinet on the basis of the digital space,” he said during the second day of the cabinet retreat at the Fairmount Mount Kenya Safari.
He in addition noted that the paperless system will be replicated in all government departments soon.
“It will be expected of them to leverage on technology to make government more efficient,” he said.
He decried that the traditional way of conducting business had resulted in poor delivery of services.
With the introduction of technology, he underscored that all manner of bureaucracy will be eliminated.
“I think it is time Kenyans got value for the resources they put at our disposal to run their affairs,” he said.
The Kenya Kwanza government manifesto has heavily banked on technology to fulfill its pledges to the electorate.
The government already through Treasury recently gazetted the eCitizen portal to be its digital payment platform.
President Ruto is planning accordingly in the coming months to migrate all government services to the digital platform.
The Government Digital Payments is aimed at increasing revenue collection and minimizing the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.
It ensures that citizens, non-citizens, and business entities can access government services online and make payments electronically using Paybill Number 222-222 from wherever they may be in the world.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u said the official identifier of citizens will be one’s National Identity Card Number; foreigners shall use an Alien Identity Card Number
He equally said the digital payments platform is integrated with all available electronic payments platforms in Kenya, including mobile money telephone payment services.
