The viral video of woman in a probox on Thika Road is winding up to be a story of many twists and turns.
Turns out, there was no abduction but a couple having a fight and it happened in the public eye this time.
Sunday 20th, a viral video fluttered around on social media. In the video, a Probox (a popular Toyota wagon) speeds up along Thika Road with its front door flung open and a woman trying to escape. To onlookers, it gave the impression of a kidnap and someone recorded the video which was then shared online.
In the video shared on social media, the unidentified lady was reportedly picked from Kenyatta University and bundled into a Probox before it started speeding off. Efforts to stop the car were futile as the driver sped off.
The Kasarani police launched investigations and it came out that the pair was a couple who had fallen out and somehow their drama spilled into the public’s attention or more precisely, a roadshow. The lady was protesting against spending time with her boyfriend who could not let her go.
The couple partly settled the matter yesterday Monday 21st and the allegations of kidnap or rather, holding persons against their will were dropped. But the culprit James Maina Kibe, was not off the hook – he was arraigned in Milimani Law courts and charged with reckless driving and flouting traffic rules. Swift for him, he pleaded guilty to the charges. He was fined Kshs. 70000 and had his driving license revoked.
Meanwhile social media has been awash with reaction. Some users who chided the police service to repost the video and offering a meme of the Ksh.50 bill, which sadly has been christened the symbol of greasy palms in the police service.
On their part, the police service explained their decision to drop the abduction charges.
A majority of Kenyans on social media condemned the action as vile and calling upon men to take a no for an answer.
