Match point saved! Kenya bounce back from Algeria, Ghana losses to survive Davis Cup scare

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 20, 2026 – Team Kenya wound up their Davis Cup Africa Group IV campaign on a high by thrashing Mozambique 3-0 at the Nairobi Club on Saturday.

Having come into the tie with their survival hopes hanging by a thread, Team Kenya a lion-hearted spirit as each of their representatives fought gallantly to ensure the country maintains its Group IV status,

Kicking off the mauling was Liberty Kibue, who won 6-0 6-1 against Rui Costa Tembe in the opening singles encounter.

Kael Shah then secured victory after brushing aside Luca Santiago De Sousa Figueiredo 6-2 6-2.

Kibue then returned to the court for a dead rubber doubles match, partnering with Zayyan Virani to beat Figueiredo and Eric Patrick Sigauque 6-4 7-6.

At the same time, Algeria and Ghana earned promotion to Davis Cup Africa Group III whereas Mozambique and DR Congo were relegated to Group V.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, tournament director Francis Mutuku exalted quality of competition exhibited at the week-long tourney, noting it as evidence of its success.
