KTDA announces record Sh1.04bn tea bonus for farmers

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 17 – KTDA Holdings has announced a record tea bonus payment totaling Sh1.04 billion for tea farmers following a rise in leaf sales.

The dividends will be payable to farmers through their factories, consisting of 54 corporate shareholders.

According to KTDA, the dividends were derived from profits made by subsidiaries, which include KTDA MS, KTDA Power, Majani Insurance Brokers, Greenland Fedha, Chai Trading Company, TEMEC, Chai Logistics, and Ketepa.

The growth in bonuses for farmers coincides with Sh89.21 billion in tea earnings this year, a growth from Sh68.22 billion last year.

“Our focus is to ensure that every decision and strategy we adopt directly benefits our farmers by increasing their earnings, reducing costs, and improving overall efficiency in the tea value chain where the farmers have invested,” KTDA Holdings National Chairman Enos Njeru said.

On his part, KTDA Group CEO Wilson Muthaura added that the agency will continue to invest in new technologies and innovations to enhance operational efficiency.

“As management, we are working with factories to increase efficiency and diversify our products. In the wake of climate change, we are also looking to introduce high-yielding teas to ensure that tea production remains sustainable.”

The national chairman also welcomed the government’s fertilizer subsidy program, which saw farmers this year save Sh900 per bag of 50 kilograms.
