KTB lists Kajulu forest as flagship site for “One Tourist, One Tree” campaign

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 24 – Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has listed Kajulu forest in Kisumu County as the flagship site for the national “One Tourist, One Tree” campaign aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.

The program, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism aims to transform the once rocky terrain into a thriving eco-tourism hub within Kenya’s Western Tourism Circuit.

The initiative seeks to attract eco-conscious travelers while fostering community engagement in environmental conservation.

Tourists will have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by planting indigenous trees, reducing their carbon footprint, and contributing to the reforestation of the forest.

Tourism Principal Secretary John Ololtua, who officiated the campaign launch, emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning the tree-planting efforts with Kenya’s goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.

He underscored that the initiative not only positions Kenya as a sustainable tourism destination but also strengthens local communities economically.

“We’re offering an opportunity for tourism stakeholders to make Kenya a top destination for eco-conscious travelers,” he said.

On her part, KTB CEO June Chepkemei asserted that the project will have far-reaching effects on the area’s ecosystem.

“This partnership will improve Kenya’s green cover and promote sustainable tourism that benefits both the environment and local communities,” she said.

Once known for its lost springs, Kajulu Forest is being revived through reforestation efforts focused on planting indigenous trees.

The forest is poised to offer scenic landscapes, improved wildlife habitats, and a unique destination for eco-tourists.
