NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 16 – Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), the Lome-based parent company of pan-African banking group has announced the appointed of Sheila Mmbijjewe on its board.
She becomes the first Kenyan to be appointed to the fifteen member board; other countries represented on the board include South Africa, Cameroon, and Zambia among others.
Sheila Mmbijjewe, 56, is a Chartered Accountant (England and Wales) and Certified Public Accountant (Kenya).
She is a former finance director at Pricewaterhouse Kenya, Stagecoach International and Standard Chartered Bank of Kenya. Until early 2014, she was also a member of the monetary policy committee of the Central Bank of Kenya.
HerΒ board experience includes directorships on the boards of Transparency International Kenya Chapter, the University of Nairobi Science and Technology Park, and Capital Markets of Kenya. She has also been Vice Chair of the Kenya Womenβs Finance Trust.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated recently injected Sh4.325 billion into Ecobank Kenya, doubling its lending capacity in order to power the subsidiaryβs growth at a time when banks are ratcheting up their capital base to comply with new capital adequacy ratios set by the Central Bank of Kenya.
