Kenya Power restores electricity after nationwide blackout

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 18 — Kenya Power has restored supply after an overnight blackout that affected most parts of the country, including Nairobi’s Central Business District.

In a statement, the company confirmed the widespread outage had spared only parts of the western and North Rift regions. By 5 a.m., power had been restored in most affected areas, with efforts ongoing to restore supply to the remaining regions.

“We are pleased to report that power has been restored to most parts of North Rift, Central Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, and sections of Nairobi and Mt Kenya regions following a widespread outage,” read the statement.

“Our team is diligently working to restore supply to all the remaining areas.”

The cause of the blackout, which occurred Monday night, is yet to be determined.

Kenya Power assured the public of timely updates on the restoration process.
