NAIROBI, Kenya, May 29 – KCB Bank Kenya, the KCB Foundation, and National Bank of Kenya (NBK) have jointly announced a KShs. 11 million sponsorship for the 2025 Rhino Charge motorsport event, scheduled for this weekend in Baringo County.
The sponsorship will support two competing teams, including a historic electric vehicle entry, as part of the banks’ broader push for sustainability, innovation, and environmental conservation.
Of the total contribution, Sh10 million will go to support Car No. 44 (AK44), driven by veteran off-roader Adil Khawaja, and Sh1 million, via the KCB Foundation, will back EV Explorers, the first-ever electric vehicle to enter the Rhino Charge, driven by Nick Foley.
“Our support for the Rhino Charge reflects our belief in the power of sport to drive both innovation and impact,” said Rosalind Gichuru, KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications. “This aligns with our commitment to sustainability and motorsports development in Kenya.”
Now in its 2025 edition, Rhino Charge will feature at least 65 teams, including top local drivers such as Ian Duncan, Eddy Verbeek, Paul Foley, Gurmeet Mehta, and Manee Choda. The challenge requires participants to reach 13 checkpoints across 100 km² of rugged terrain within 10 hours, testing both man and machine.
The event begins with scrutineering and map distribution on Friday, May 30, followed by the competition on Saturday, and a prizegiving ceremony on Sunday, June 1, where the top three teams and total funds raised will be announced.

Organised by Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust, the Rhino Charge raises funds for the conservation of Kenya’s mountain range ecosystems—known as Water Towers—which are vital sources of freshwater and biodiversity.
The banks’ sponsorship underlines a growing private sector role in conservation, while also highlighting the emergence of electric vehicles in Kenya’s motorsports scene.
