NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 18 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has warned the public to disregard a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media platforms purporting to announce an “IEBC 2026 Recruitment Intake.”
In a statement, the electoral body clarified that the notice is fraudulent and did not originate from the Commission. IEBC urged Kenyans to ignore the advertisement, cautioning that it is designed to mislead job seekers and potentially steal personal information through fake online links.
The Commission warned the public against submitting applications or sharing personal details on unofficial platforms, stressing that all legitimate recruitment information is only published through its official communication channels and verified careers portal.
“Members of the public are advised not to submit applications or disclose personal information through the links contained in the advertisement or any other unofficial recruitment platform,” the Commission said.
IEBC further reiterated that it does not conduct recruitment through unverified social media pages, adding that all job opportunities are strictly advertised through its official systems.
At the same time, the Commission cautioned individuals behind the circulation of the fake adverts, noting that creating, publishing, or sharing misleading recruitment information intended to defraud the public is a criminal offence that may attract legal consequences.
The electoral agency also highlighted that recruitment of election staff is a major logistical and financial undertaking, particularly during general elections, when it hires hundreds of thousands of temporary workers including presiding officers, polling clerks, ICT clerks, voter educators, and counting officials.
IEBC noted that such staffing exercises account for a significant portion of the electoral budget, often running into billions of shillings during election cycles.
