NAIROBI, Kenya, June 16 – The stage is officially set for an epic week of tennis as Team Kenya discovers its path to promotion for the 2026 Davis Cup Africa Group IV tournament.
In the official draw conducted ahead of tomorrow’s (Wednesday) action at the Nairobi Club, the hosts have been placed in a formidable Pool A alongside West African side Ghana, North African heavyweights Algeria, and a stubborn Botswana side.
Meanwhile, Pool B will feature a Southern and Central African battleground consisting of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Angola.
Kenya enters the tournament with a potent mix of seasoned experience and explosive youth, guided by a stellar technical bench.
The team is coached by the highly tactical Rosemary Owino, with the legendary Allan Cooper serving as team captain.
On the court, Kenya’s charge will be led by the country’s most decorated modern player, the experienced Ismael Changawa.
Joining him in the formidable four-man squad are the clinical Kael Shah, the dynamic Zayyan Virani, and the rising star Liberty Baraka.
With only the top two teams from the pool advancing to Saturday’s promotion play-offs, the Kenyan technical bench knows there is absolutely no room for error from the first serve.
The hosts will not have the luxury of easing into the tournament. Kenya is scheduled to kick off its campaign tomorrow, Wednesday, June 17th, against a dangerous Algeria side in what promises to be a high-octane opening-day fixture.
The strategy will be simple: maximize the home-court advantage and rely on the partisan Nairobi crowd to slow down the North Africans early in the tie. In the other Pool A fixture of the day, Ghana will square off against Botswana.
Over in Pool B, tournament favorites Zimbabwe will launch their quest against Mozambique, while the DRC will clash with Angola in a highly anticipated regional derby.
