British-Ugandan actor Daniel Kaluuya and American actress Keke Palmer are joining forces in an upcoming fiction horror film titled Nope.
The film follows the story of two siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood running a horse ranch in California discover something wonderful and sinister in the skies above.
The Sauce spoke to the stars about the highly anticipated film. When asked how they got their minds right for the movie, Daniel who admitted he is not a horror movie fan, revealed that he had to get into the mindset of his character OJ. On the other hand, Keke had to immerse herself completely in order to bring out her character Emerald ‘Em’.
“The horse training was more about the mindset of OJ and how he relates with animals, he has his own relationship with animals, the horses are his friends, he doesn’t have people friends, that’s what helped get my mind right,” explained Daniel.
The co-stars turned friends highlighted some of the challenges they faced while filming Nope saying that it was hard trying to work together with the crew and whilst making sure that everyone was safe and Covid-free.
Keke and Daniel also delved into what it means being people of color in Hollywood and the narrative around the industry. Keke was quick to praise Nope for its unique storytelling and being representative of black people.
“Its a wonderful thing, the characters are rich, our blackness doesn’t define us in a way that it is related to oppression, its part of our narrative, it is based in joy and legacy and taking claim in something we have always been a part of,” gushed Keke.
Nope which was directed by award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele is set to hit the cinemas in Kenya on the 19th of August 2022.
