NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has expanded its branch network to 94 following the opening of its Isiolo branch, as the lender steps up its physical presence in underserved markets ahead of a target of 100 outlets by the end of 2026.

The expansion comes as banks seek to deepen their reach beyond major urban centers and tap into business opportunities in emerging regional economies, where traders, small businesses and other enterprises require access to financial services.

Isiolo becomes DTB’s latest market, with the lender citing the county’s strategic position along the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor and its potential in trade, tourism and other economic activities.

The county currently has seven banks serving its population, according to DTB, highlighting the limited banking presence in a region with growing commercial potential.

DTB Kenya Managing Director Murali Natarajan said the new branch would bring banking services closer to individuals and businesses operating in northern Kenya.

“Financial inclusion means ensuring that opportunity is not determined by where someone lives. By establishing a presence in Isiolo, we are bringing our banking services closer to individuals and businesses that are contributing to the region’s economy,”said Natarajan.

“We recognise the potential of northern Kenya and want to be a partner to the people, enterprises and communities building the future.”

The branch opening comes as Isiolo seeks to position itself as a regional commercial hub, supported by its location along the LAPSSET corridor, which is expected to strengthen transport, trade and connectivity between Kenya and neighboring countries.

Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo said increased banking access could support local traders, pastoralist communities and entrepreneurs by bringing financial services closer to their businesses.

“For a county like Isiolo with its strategic location and growing economic opportunities, having more banking services within reach can make a meaningful difference to our traders, pastoralist communities, entrepreneurs and young people.”

DTB plans to open five additional branches in Homa Bay, Kawangware, Ruiru, Redhill Runda and Parklands, taking its network to 100 outlets by December.
