NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 29 — Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr Davji Atellah has been admitted with a head injury sustained during a protest in Nairobi.

Attelah was rushed to a hospital in Nairobi on Thursday after an incident union officials blamed on the police.

KMPDU said a police officer aimed a teargas canister on the union official’s head.

The union condemned the incident saying KMPDU had obtained clearance from authorities to hold the demonstration.

During the protest, KMPDU demanded the immediate posting of medical interns by the Ministry of Health.

The union protested the delayed posting of medical graduates, months after graduating saying the move had stalled their career prospects.
