NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 26 – Citibank Kenya will close its Mombasa branch from November 30, 2026, ending more than three decades of physical operations in the coastal city.
The bank said it will consolidate its corporate banking operations at its Nairobi headquarters as it shifts more services to digital platforms.
“Effective November 30, 2026, Citibank, N.A. Kenya (Citi Kenya) will consolidate its physical operations and manage all corporate banking services from its Nairobi headquarters,” the bank said in its latest half-year financial statement.
Citi said the move is part of its plan to modernise and digitise banking services and has received the required regulatory approvals.
The bank assured customers that the closure would not affect the availability or continuity of its products and services.
“Clients will continue to have full access to Citi Kenya’s comprehensive suite of institutional banking products and services through CitiDirect and other electronic banking platforms.”
The branch closure comes as Citi Kenya’s financial performance weakened in the first half of 2026.
The bank’s net profit fell to Sh2 billion in the six months to June, down from Sh4.1 billion in the same period last year.
The decline was partly attributed to lower net interest income, which fell to Sh5.9 billion from Sh7 billion.
