NAIROBI, Kenya, May 22 – Barbados is pitching itself as the next dream destination for Kenyan travelers, following a high-level engagement by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) and the Barbados High Commission in Nairobi.
The campaign seeks to tap into Kenya’s growing outbound tourism market by showcasing the Caribbean island’s cultural richness, luxury experiences, and ease of travel.
The promotional event, held at Kwetu by Hilton, brought together Kenyan media representatives and tourism stakeholders to explore what Barbados has to offer.
Mr. Kyle Gittens, Director of Emerging Markets at BTMI, led the visiting delegation, which included Barbados High Commissioner to Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania, H.E. Alexander McDonald, and Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Jovan Reid.
“Barbados offers Kenyan travelers a rich blend of culture, history, and leisure,” said Mr. Gittens.
“We are excited to build stronger tourism ties with Kenya and provide unforgettable Caribbean experiences for African travelers.”
The destination offers a diverse tourism portfolio—from world-class golf courses like Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland, to historic landmarks such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bridgetown.
Kenyan tourists are also being enticed by the island’s vibrant festivals, notably the Crop Over Festival, and its fusion cuisine rooted in African, European, and Caribbean traditions.
Mr. Gittens also highlighted logistical advantages. Barbados is accessible from key international hubs with an approximate 8-hour flight from gateway cities.
It features a familiar left-hand driving system, English as the official language, and a reputation for safety and hospitality—key considerations for Kenyan tourists exploring new regions.
Barbados’ outreach to Kenya is part of a broader strategy to expand its presence in emerging African markets and position the island as a preferred destination for both leisure and cultural tourism.
The campaign signals growing bilateral tourism cooperation and aligns with the global trend of south-south travel corridors, offering new business opportunities for travel agencies, airlines, and hospitality service providers.
