NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 26 – Public sector agencies have teamed up with leading private enterprises in the agribusiness space, including RooTooba, to drive preparations for the 2025 Financing Agri-Food System (FINAS) conference.
Slated for May 20 to 22 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, the gathering will convene agriculture policymakers, financial analysts, agribusiness leaders, and development collaborators from across Africa.
The FINAS conference seeks to refine policies and financial frameworks within the agribusiness domain by encouraging synergies between public institutions and private organizations.
Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono underscored the urgent necessity for a sustainable funding structure in the sector.
“The biggest hurdle we have encountered is securing adequate financial support for agriculture,” Rono remarked.
“We believe a streamlined regulatory framework is essential to establish a long-term approach to funding agricultural activities.”
Under the theme ‘Sustainable Financing for Africa’s Agri-Food Systems,’ the event will serve as a forum for discussions on pioneering financial instruments, risk mitigation strategies, and investment prospects aimed at bolstering food security and economic resilience.
Additionally, the summit will include expert discussions, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities designed to tackle pressing issues in agribusiness investment.
Highlighted topics for the conference include youth involvement in agriculture and technological advancements shaping Kenya’s farming sector.
Furthermore, attendees will examine obstacles facing agricultural cooperatives, with the goal of strengthening the country’s 1,450 active cooperatives.
The FINAS conference will also explore strategies to enhance market accessibility for farm produce and encourage value addition to boost overall productivity and profitability.
Key discussions will revolve around optimizing supply chains, utilizing digital solutions for market expansion, and formulating policies that support agribusiness startups and small-scale farmers.
With groundwork already in motion, the conference is anticipated to lay the foundation for groundbreaking policies that will redefine agribusiness in Kenya and beyond.
Core partners include the Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and various regional and global entities committed to promoting sustainable agricultural financing solutions.
