NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 – African Originals has launched Kenya’s first ready-to-drink (RTD) gin and tonic made entirely from locally sourced ingredients, marking a milestone in the country’s alcoholic beverage industry.
Branded 5.8 Gin & Tonic, the drink is available in three flavours—Classic (with baobab from Kilifi), Very Berry (blueberries from Tigoni), and Spiced Orange (a blend of locally grown oranges and chilis).
The ingredients are sourced from Kenyan farmers and botanicals harvested in collaboration with the Maasai community.
Alex Chappatte, Founder and CEO of African Originals, said the product reflects a growing demand for locally crafted beverages.
“We’re proud to introduce a product that captures the spirit of Kenya while appealing to global audiences,” Chappatte said.
“Our 5.8 Gin & Tonic is designed for Kenyan consumers who crave something fresh, local, and exciting.”
The global RTD drinks market has seen strong growth in recent years, with Africa’s urban consumers increasingly seeking lighter and craft-style alcoholic beverages.
African Originals says the new product is not only aimed at the domestic market but will also be available in the United Kingdom.
