NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18-Detectives have recovered narcotic drugs suspected to be cocaine and arrested two suspects following an operation in Nairobi, Buruburu area.
The operation was conducted Thursday morning by Directorate of Criminal Investigations Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives who raided a house at Harambee estate and recovered 18 pellets of the highly addictive drug.
Authorities identified the suspects as Curtis Muli and Teresa Achieng.
During the 6 am raid, law enforcement officers also seized a significant amount of currency in both Kenyan shillings and foreign denominations.
“The cash included $12,601 USD, €15 Euros, Sh509, 495, Tsh24,000 and 10,000 Angolan Kwanza,” said the DCI.
Detectives say the search was extended to an adjacent house believed to be a stash house within the same area where three test tubes, a digital weighing machine and ID card belonging to one of the suspects was recovered.
The estimated weight of the recovered drugs amounts to 0.244 grams.
The suspects are currently being held at Muthaiga police station pending more investigations and arraignment in court.
On August 15, police in Nairobi seized Sh 12.98 million in cash and apprehended individuals linked to narcotics-related activities within Ngara’s Kariwa slums.
The National Police Service said Tuesday that the recovery was made following a multi-agency operation that culminated in the apprehension of four suspects.
Police identified the suspects as Eugene Jumba, Hillary Jumbo, Sheila Withers and Teresa Wanjiru.
During the operation, law enforcement officers managed to secure a cache of evidence, including 26 bags of marijuana, four cartons containing rolling materials, and 173 pieces of a substance believed to be blended drugs or bhang.
Additionally, a sizable recovery of 42 cartons, each containing 200 cigarettes, was also made.
Also recovered were 42 cartons each containing 200 pieces of cigarettes.
The NPS confirmed that the case is currently under investigation by the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit.
