After a landmark 2024 that saw Young Lunya release his critically acclaimed project ‘Mbuzi’ and further cement himself among East Africa’s elite lyricists, the rapper returns with his first official release since the album, “Mkuu Wa Majeshi”, featuring Tanzanian heavyweight Harmonize.
More than just a collaboration, “Mkuu Wa Majeshi” finds both Young Lunya and Harmonize standing tall as leaders in their respective lanes, one a generational rap voice pushing the boundaries of Swahili hip-hop, the other a hit-making powerhouse who has become one of East Africa’s most recognizable stars. On “Mkuu Wa Majeshi,” both artists step into that status unapologetically.
Driven by chest-out confidence, razor-sharp bars and commanding performances, the record finds Young Lunya reinforcing his place among the culture’s standard-bearers. The recurring refrain, “Wananiita Mkuu Wa Majeshi,” feels less like a boast and more like a title earned through years of proving doubters wrong.
The release arrives on the heels of Young Lunya’s widely discussed “Statement” freestyle which received support from Hennessy and UK based streetwear brand Boy London, further signaling his growing influence beyond music and into culture.
Accompanied by a cinematic visual inspired by power and command, “Mkuu Wa Majeshi” marks the beginning of Young Lunya’s next chapter, one where the stakes are higher, the vision is bigger and the mission remains the same: to push East African Hip hop forward.
Speaking on the release, Head of Sony Music East Africa Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha shared, “This record brings together two artists who have built their positions through hard work, discipline and consistency. ‘Mkuu Wa Majeshi’ is about leadership and recognizing the journey it takes to reach the top. Young Lunya has more to prove, and this is just the start.”
