NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 30 – Rapper Volvexzshawa, whose real name is Hamisi Gift Musitwa, recently opened up about the reasons behind his hiatus from the music industry. Although born in Kenya, he was raised in South Carolina, United States, and initially gained recognition as a street battle rapper in early 2017.
Gift told Capital FM that being in the music industry requires financial resources to promote one’s projects effectively. He emphasized that self-promotion can only go so far, and even the most talented artists need financial support to produce their music.
Gift decided to take a break from music to focus on generating income through other means since his music career wasn’t financially sustainable at the time. He worked hard to secure the funds needed to continue pursuing his musical talents.
Currently, he is actively promoting his two latest single albums, ‘Papa’ and ‘Stay Focused,’ which were released last week. He revealed that it was his fans who inspired him to transition into singing.
Gift’s journey in music faced initial challenges, as his family and friends didn’t provide much support, and he encountered negative feedback when he began. His style, characterized by dark humour rap and Kiswahili lyrics, received criticism from some quarters.
Looking ahead, he expressed his desire to collaborate with artists like Lilmaina, Brooklyn Boyz, and Khaligraph Jones. He also aspires to work with renowned music producers such as Magix Enga and Ndovuu Kuu.
To his fans, Gift conveyed his gratitude and assured them that he is currently working on significant projects. He hopes for their continued support and mentioned that, even without music videos, his music has garnered over 247,000 streams across various platforms distributed by UnitedMasters.
His journey in music began with the release of his first single album, ‘I’m on My Way,’ in November 2020.
