NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – Taita Taveta’s Water and Sewerage service provider, TAVEVO, has constituted a team to unclog sewer lines in Voi’s Sikujua Estate after a private developer interfered with a section of the infrastructure.
TAVEVO said the team will work on cleaning manholes in the affected area as the county administration explores a permanent solution.
The service provider said it had escalated the matter to a multi-sectoral forum to address the interference of its sewer line by the private developer which the firm noted had inhibited the flow of effluent.
“Unfortunately, towards the end of last year a private developer, while undertaking construction works next to the main lagoon where the sewer is destined, interfered with the infrastructure affecting the sewer flow,” the service provider stated on Saturday.
TAVEVO appealed to residents in the affected area to support its efforts to resolve the challenge by segregating household waste for proper disposal.
The water service provider said plan were underway to upgrade its sewer infrastructure in the light of increased waste.
TAVEVO’s statement on the sewer infrastructure comes a month after the firm’s bulk water supply was disconnected plunging Voi town into a water crisis.
The Coast Water Works Development Agency later restored the bulk water supply following a consensus with TAVEVO on unpaid bills.
