NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8 — State House has denied that the changes in the security details attached to the Mombasa and Kilifi Governors Ali Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi are politically motivated.
President Kenyatta’s spokesperson Manoah Esipisu says the changes were undertaken by the county regional commanders and not at the behest of the Head of State.
“My understanding is that regional command structures in Mombasa and Kilifi are reorganising themselves and I think it would be up to them to respond to any issues around that reorganisation. There’s no political motive in operational matters within the police force, it’s up to the various commands to make decisions as they deem fit in response to emerging security issues within their jurisdictions.”
He has denied that the changes have anything to do with Joho and Kingi’s adamance in defending and remaining loyal to their leader Raila Odinga on whose party ticket they were elected as is their democratic right.
Yesterday afternoon a section of legislators from the Coast region took issue with the thinning down of Joho and Kingi’s security details.
“They started recalling each and every person who has been assigned to His Excellency the Governor (Joho) and that was from the residential house, to the office and his own personal bodyguards have been asked to report back to their stations.”
Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has warned his officers against escorting county government officials and enabling them to break traffic rules.
