TVS Motor eyes premium Kenyan bikers with new Apache RTR 180 model

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 17 – India’s TVS Motor Company has introduced the TVS Apache RTR 180 in the Kenyan market as it seeks to expand its premium motorcycle range across East Africa.

The launch, done in partnership with long-time distributor Car & General, marks the first time the Apache brand—known for its racing heritage and global following—enters Kenya. TVS says the move is aimed at tapping into the country’s growing community of performance-focused riders.

“Kenya is central to TVSM’s continental ambitions, given its role as a regional commercial hub and its influence on motorcycle culture across East Africa,” said Peyman Kargar, President – International Business, TVS Motor Company.

“This move further strengthens TVSM’s commitment to serve Kenyan consumers with products that enhance their mobility aspirations and complement their lifestyles.”

The Apache RTR 180 is powered by a 177.4cc engine that delivers 15.22 PS at 8,500 RPM and 14.1 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM. The model features disc brakes, race-tuned adjustable suspension, LED headlamps, tubeless tyres with a wider rear profile, and a 5-speed gearbox.

TVS says the motorcycle is targeted at young urban riders seeking a higher-performance daily commuter capable of both city and light off-road use.

“Our partnership with TVS Motor Company gets stronger with the launch of TVS Apache RTR 180 to the Kenyan market,” said Vijay Gidoomal, CEO, Car & General.

“The product is perfectly suited for our young customers who seek a dynamic daily ride… We trust the TVS Apache RTR 180 will accelerate the growth of the premium motorcycle segment in Kenya.”

The bike will retail at Sh269,990 and will be available across 12 Car & General dealerships nationwide. It comes in four colours: Pearl White, Matte Blue, Gloss Black and Matte Grey.

The launch comes as TVS increases its product development investments globally. The company says its R&D spending rose from ₹495 crore in FY 2022/23 to ₹1,025 crore in FY 2024/25, supported by a team of more than 2,000 engineers and technology specialists.

TVS Motor currently sells products in more than 90 countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa, with the Apache series marking 20 years in production this year.
