The July edition of Blankets & Wine went down on Sunday, July 2 at its new fixture spot, Laureate Garden, that stands next to Moi International Sports Stadium.
Marking its second edition this year, as is customary, Blankets & Wine took no prisoners. From the sheer meticulous organization, to adequate space, a well orchestrated lineup of performers, the July edition did exactly what it needed to do!
For the second time this year, the festival enlisted an all-Kenyan lineup. Maya Amolo, Costa Ojwang, Mutoriah, Brandy Maina, Maroon Commandos, Nameless, Khaligraph Jones and Bensoul all made up the performers’ bill and collectively pulled all the stops and gave the yearning revelers a raved up and interactive music experience.
With Bensoul closing out the show, he had quite the pressure to live up to. Partly owing to the fact that the predecessor performers got numerous stamps of approval from the crowd after putting on electrifying performances and partly because he is, well, Bensoul. It goes without saying that he tore that stage up as he closed out the night.
Nameless took the crowd down memory lane with his classics like ‘Sinzia’ and ‘Salari.’ As if that was not a treat enough, the prolific musician brought out old collaborator Mr. Lenny and wife Wahu Kagwi, both of whom the audience evidently loved.
Later, Khaligraph Jones would upscale the energy with a high-octane rendition of his HipHop hits, the Bensoul closed out the show with a stunning performance.
