The media is united in condemning the increased attacks on journalists after several were injured during Thursday protests called by Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
At least six journalists, including many of them Cameramen and women, were seriously injured in Nairobi and Kisumu during Thursday protests.
Others had their cameras and other equipment vandalised or stolen while others were forced to delete photos and video footage.
The attacks have been condemned by the Media Owners Association (MoA), Media Council of Kenya (MCK), the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG), the Kenya Union of Journalists among other organisations which called for action from authorities.
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has described March 2023 as the darkest month for the Kenyan media since the clamour for multiparty democracy.
“We have so far documented 25 cases of attacks on local and foreign journalists at the hands of State and non-State actors since the onset of the demonstrations,” said MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo.
