NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 21 – Kenya National Police DT SACCO Chief Executive Officer Solomon Angutsa Atsiaya, MBS, has been sworn in as Chairman of The Co-operative University of Kenya Alumni Association (CUKAA).
Atsiaya took the oath alongside members of the newly constituted CUKAA Executive Committee during a ceremony officiated by the university’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac K. Nyamongo.
The new executive brings together professionals from different fields who will support the university’s engagement with its alumni and create opportunities for students through mentorship, internships, networking and sponsorship.
Other members sworn in include Mary Njoki Mbugua, an Assistant Lecturer at The Co-operative University of Kenya, who will serve as Vice Chairperson, and Dr Peter Wawire Ongeti, Business Development Manager at CIC Insurance Group, Chairperson of CIC Sacco and a Co-operative Bank Kenya delegate, who will serve as Secretary.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Nyamongo said alumni remained important stakeholders in the university’s development.
“Alumni are integral stakeholders of the University and a living testimony of the contribution that The Co-operative University of Kenya makes to society,” said Prof. Nyamongo.
He said the new executive would help strengthen alumni networks while supporting mentorship, research, internships, fundraising and knowledge sharing.
For Atsiaya, the appointment provides an opportunity to give back to an institution that contributed to his professional journey and mobilise other alumni to support current students.
He said the Association’s success would be measured by the opportunities it creates for students and the connections it builds among alumni.
“We have alumni who have built successful careers in different fields. Our responsibility now is to bring that experience, knowledge and network together and make it useful to the students coming behind us,” said Atsiaya.
The Association plans to establish a structured mentorship programme linking students with professionals who can provide career guidance, industry exposure and advice on transitioning from university to the workplace.
It also plans to establish a sponsorship programme for needy and deserving students while exploring opportunities for internships and professional networking.
Atsiaya said the Association would seek to reconnect alumni from CUK and its predecessor institutions and encourage them to contribute to the university’s development.
The new executive will serve as a link between the university’s alumni, current students and the wider professional community as it seeks to build a stronger alumni network.
