NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 23 – Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has ridiculed President William Ruto’s explanation for claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing opposition activities.

Sifuna questioned the President’s reliance on a newspaper headline after Ruto was asked to produce evidence that Uhuru is sponsoring the opposition.

“That guy who is supposedly carrying all the intelligence of Kenya was asked a very simple question—to provide evidence that Uhuru is sponsoring the opposition—and he said he also read it in the newspaper… yet he claims we are the fools,” the Nairobi Senator said.

Ruto cited a Sunday Nation headline published on August 2, titled ‘Uhuru super coalition against Ruto,’ saying the newspaper had effectively answered the question.

Sunday Nation: Where is the evidence that they’re being sponsored by Uhuru, Mr President?

Ruto: You work for the Nation right? Can you check the Sunday Nation head-line of August 2. What was the head-line? It says ‘Uhuru super coalition against Ruto’. You answered your-selves. Despite everything he did, I won the elections.

But Sifuna dismissed the argument, saying the President had failed to provide evidence beyond what he had read in the media.
