NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 31 – Several people, including teachers and passengers, were injured after a bus ploughed into a crowd outside City Primary School in Ngara during the ongoing Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) branch elections.
Witnesses said the bus lost control near the school’s main gate and subsequently overturned, sending people sprawling.
Teachers had queued for hours to cast their votes, with school management opening the grounds to accommodate the large turnout.
Emergency responders, including two ambulance crews, attended to the victims, and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to account for all those affected and clear the wreckage.
Nairobi traffic police blocked the road leading to Thika Superhighway, diverting motorists to alternative routes to ease congestion and ensure safety.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and details on the number and extent of injuries are still emerging.
